Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy (mHBOT) is a highly effective therapy where oxygen is delivered to the user through increased atmospheric pressure in an enclosed pod. When oxygen is delivered at pressures higher than normal, it is dissolved and pushed deep into the blood cells, blood plasma, lymph fluid, and cerebrospinal fluid creating some incredible wellbeing outcomes.
Although Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy has been around for many years as a medical treatment, more recently a version known as ‘Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy’, or mHBOT, has been made available as a health and wellbeing modality in a wellness setting.
Here’s some of the common questions we regularly get asked and a great place to start your AirPod wellness journey…
- What is mHBOT?: a safe wellness therapy that utilises filtered atmospheric air and an increased pressure environment to elevate the oxygen concentration in the tissues and cells.
- Oxygen under pressure: Enhanced atmospheric pressure increases the oxygen content by dissolving oxygen into blood plasma, thereby creating a dual carrier system of oxygen via the red blood cells and blood plasma.
- Health benefits: mHBOT is used to strengthen your foundation for general health and wellbeing by promoting relaxation, providing nervous system support, improving sleep quality, boosting energy output and strengthening your body’s immunity. In addition, mHBOT also provides vital healing and recovery benefits as it accelerates every healing process in the body, boosts cognitive function and mind clarity, reduces inflammation to accelerate injury recovery, boosts circulation and so much more!
- How does it work inside the body? The AirPod mHBOT is a safe, non-invasive wellness therapy that increases the oxygen concentration in your body and delivers this oxygen under pressure to reach tissues and peripheral cells, especially those in the brain, heart, and eyes, even if capillaries are very narrow. Importantly, mHBOT delivers these benefits without the risk of side effects associated with higher grade hyperbaric devices (2.0 ATA+) including barotrauma and excessive production of reactive oxygen species in tissues and organs.
- Session times: for general wellness, we recommend a 60 minute session. For recovery, we recommend a 90 minute session. We encourage our clients to utilise this time for rest and recovery, however, if you would like to remain productive, you can select the AirPod Revive where you can remain seated and read a book, magazine or keep working on your laptop or phone.
- Lying or sitting: The AirPod offers both a lying and sitting option, catering for people of all age groups, health states and wellness objectives.
- Is it right for me?: As with most wellness therapies, if you have a serious medical condition you will need to consult your medical specialist or doctor prior to using the AirPod
- What is the user experience like? Mild pressure (1.30 ATA) is pleasant to a wider range of users compared with a traditional hyperbaric chamber. It is recommended you wear loose, comfortable clothing. The AirPod will reach maximum pressure within five minutes during which time you clear your ears the same as you would on an aeroplane. There is adequate space to sit upright or to lie down comfortably. Take a book or magazine into the AirPod, meditate, listen to music, go on your laptop, iPad or iPhone or simply fall into a deep sleep. Each treatment typically lasts for 60 minutes and you can then carry on with your day as planned, with energy to thrive.
- How will I feel after a session?: Many people report feeling very calm and relaxed immediately post the session as well as many also feeling increased energy, stamina, mind clarity and the big one, better sleep!
- Is it safe to use on a regular basis? The AirPod is a safe, drug-free mild hyperbaric pod that can be used regularly without any danger of oxygen toxicity. No dangerous side effects have been reported with mHBOT, however, some individuals can experience a few minor contraindications such as slight fatigue as the body detoxifies (this is safe and necessary). A person can also experience a mild discomfort to the ears when pressurising the AirPod similar to the experience of ascending or descending in an aircraft.
- Are users required to wear a mask? No. For additional safety, the AirPod does not add extra oxygen into the pressurised environment. Therefore, an oxygen mask is not required.
